Any charges reported in these statements are accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until or unless proven guilty.


Feb 28 - 1:56 a.m., Bar manager asked officers to conduct frequent checks at closing time due to some apparent agitation on the part of several patrons. 2:36 a.m., Officer stopped a speeding driver and learned that Blake J. Maynard, 37, of Colorado, had a suspended license for failing to maintain vehicle insurance. Maynard was charged with driving while license suspended/revoked.

Feb 27 - 3:31 a.m., Intoxicated caller alleged that a neighbor was providing drugs and/or alcohol to a minor, but provided little other information. Officers responded to the suspect location but found no indication that anyone was awake in the residence. 5:16 a.m., Young man reported his ex-girlfriend was sending him text messages ad infinitum. Officers contacted the ex, who admitted communicating with the young man but only after he asked her for a substantial sum of money. Officers advised the woman to cease communicating with the penniless youth. 1:23 p.m., Another less than responsible citizen struck an unattended vehicle and then left without providing contact information. Under investigation. 9:21 p.m., Caller reported a large hairy male was screaming and grabbing at a woman in an effort to get her to accompany him from the hotel. Officers responded and found a drunken couple in a dispute about whether or not the woman was allowed to buy a potted plant. 11:29 p.m., Officer advised an intoxicated man he was too drunk to be on a licensed premise.

Feb 26 - 8:56 p.m., Captain of a vessel reported one of his deckhands was passed out in front of the Airport Bar. He asked that an officer contact the drunken sailor and advise him not to return to the vessel.

Feb 25 - 8:30 p.m., Officer observed a dog at large. The owner has been issued many citations and does not seem inclined to keep his dog corralled. The officer, having captured the dog, put it in the owner’s vacant but open house.

Feb 24 - 12 a.m., Officer discussed care options with clinic personnel regarding another individual who was hearing voices that were not audible to anyone else. 9:15 a.m., Caller reported a taxi that pulled out in front of her, then got into a turn lane and cut her off when it swerved back into traffic. Officer contacted the vehicle operator and warned him about his poor driving practices. 1:23 p.m., Processing plant made arrangements for a former employee to pick up his belongings after he was released from jail, as he would not be allowed back on the property in the future. 6:33 p.m., Officer responded to the Alyeska Trading Company regarding an intoxicated, aggressive customer. Investigation revealed that the drunken customer found the store clerk far too effeminate for his tastes and subsequently threw his Ding Dongs, for which he had suddenly lost all appetite, into the trash. The clerk stated he felt threatened by the drunken customer and requested that he be given a trespass advisement. 6:34 p.m., Caller reported that sometime during the night someone had damaged his vehicle, apparently by running into it with another vehicle. The other, clearly less-than-responsible citizen did not leave contact information. Under investigation.

Feb 23 - 1:27 a.m., Officer advised an intoxicated man that he was not to be on licensed premises for the remainder of the night. 1:23 p.m., Caller reported her vehicle had been stolen while she was out of town. Investigation revealed that her significant other had made a deal to sell one of their vehicles to a local resident over the phone, and the buyer misunderstood which of the two similar vehicles parked outside of their house with keys in the ignition he had purchased. The vehicle was returned without delay.

Feb 22 - 10:21 p.m., An officer discovered a small amount of marijuana inside a vehicle which he had stopped. Neither occupant displayed signs of being under the influence of any substance, nor did they own the vehicle, so they were released, but the marijuana was brought to the station and booked into evidence for destruction.

Feb 21 - 1:12 a.m., Valerie Ann Hupe, 43, of Unalaska was arrested after an officer observed her purchasing alcohol and she admitted to drinking previously in the evening, a violation of her conditions of release stemming from an earlier arrest. 4:58 p.m., Loann Nina Bereskin, 47, of Unalaska, was arrested on the charge of fourth-degree domestic violence assault after hitting her boyfriend multiple times in the face and groin. 6:40 p.m., Roommates argued, while throwing kitchen items and discharging a fire extinguisher. Melvin Eugene Bush, 53, of Unalaska, was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault. 7:13 p.m., While investigating the previous case, officers discovered Kevin Joseph Smith, 39, of Unalaska, was violating his probation conditions by consuming alcoholic beverages. He was taken into custody on the request of his probation officer.

Feb 19 - 11:21 a.m., Caller reported a sturdy Boston terrier was preventing her and passengers from exiting her car with its aggressive barking and stance. The individual watching the dog was advised of leash laws. 11:03 p.m., Caller reported a possible DUI. The driver was already in his house when officers arrived and refused to speak with officers.

Feb 18 - 12:56 a.m., Caller reported an intoxicated male making racist comments that were upsetting those around him. Officers discovered that the individual was telling the men from Africa that they did not understand what African Americans experienced in the United States. Officers requested he refrain from speaking about it further, as it could be construed as harassment. 1:36 p.m., Due to an apparent mechanical failure, a parked, unoccupied vehicle slid down a hill and struck another parked, unoccupied vehicle. No citation issued. 2:40 p.m., Caller reported a fox with a trap on its leg in downtown Unalaska. The resilient fox again avoided efforts to capture it, although live traps were set in the area where he had been seen. 10:54 p.m., A male individual followed a woman to the bathroom at a bar. After being contacted, he stated he did follow her, but as soon as he saw her enter the bathroom, he refrained from going in after her. 11:55 p.m., Officer observed a male who he had previously advised not to consume any more alcohol present and drinking in a new bar. The individual stated he didn’t remember receiving an advisement. Gromyko Samuel Lekka, 48, of Hilo, Hawaii, was arrested for drunken person on licensed premises.
