Feb 21 - 1:12 a.m., Valerie Ann Hupe, 43, of Unalaska was arrested after an officer observed her purchasing alcohol and she admitted to drinking previously in the evening, a violation of her conditions of release stemming from an earlier arrest. 4:58 p.m., Loann Nina Bereskin, 47, of Unalaska, was arrested on the charge of fourth-degree domestic violence assault after hitting her boyfriend multiple times in the face and groin. 6:40 p.m., Roommates argued, while throwing kitchen items and discharging a fire extinguisher. Melvin Eugene Bush, 53, of Unalaska, was arrested for fourth-degree domestic violence assault. 7:13 p.m., While investigating the previous case, officers discovered Kevin Joseph Smith, 39, of Unalaska, was violating his probation conditions by consuming alcoholic beverages. He was taken into custody on the request of his probation officer.
Feb 19 - 11:21 a.m., Caller reported a sturdy Boston terrier was preventing her and passengers from exiting her car with its aggressive barking and stance. The individual watching the dog was advised of leash laws. 11:03 p.m., Caller reported a possible DUI. The driver was already in his house when officers arrived and refused to speak with officers.
Feb 18 - 12:56 a.m., Caller reported an intoxicated male making racist comments that were upsetting those around him. Officers discovered that the individual was telling the men from Africa that they did not understand what African Americans experienced in the United States. Officers requested he refrain from speaking about it further, as it could be construed as harassment. 1:36 p.m., Due to an apparent mechanical failure, a parked, unoccupied vehicle slid down a hill and struck another parked, unoccupied vehicle. No citation issued. 2:40 p.m., Caller reported a fox with a trap on its leg in downtown Unalaska. The resilient fox again avoided efforts to capture it, although live traps were set in the area where he had been seen. 10:54 p.m., A male individual followed a woman to the bathroom at a bar. After being contacted, he stated he did follow her, but as soon as he saw her enter the bathroom, he refrained from going in after her. 11:55 p.m., Officer observed a male who he had previously advised not to consume any more alcohol present and drinking in a new bar. The individual stated he didn’t remember receiving an advisement. Gromyko Samuel Lekka, 48, of Hilo, Hawaii, was arrested for drunken person on licensed premises.
Feb 17 - 2:10 a.m., Dylan A. Hatfield, 21, of Kasilof, was arrested for driving under the influence after he was stopped by an officer for driving without benefit of headlights. Hatfield was subsequently charged with refusal to submit to a chemical test and misconduct involving a controlled substance, after marijuana was found on his person.
Feb 16 - 1:06 a.m., Officer advised a bar patron he was too intoxicated to remain on the premises. The man eventually left, but only after spending an inordinate amount of time hugging, kissing and chatting with all of his new friends. 12:25 p.m., Mother reported she had not heard from her son since around the time he was fired from his job at a processing plant, several weeks ago. An officer learned that the man now spends a considerable amount of time at the library, and asked library staff to tell the man to call his mother. 4:56 p.m., Caller reported a fox with a trap on its foot, behind a local restaurant. Officers responded but were unable to locate the suffering animal, which had presumably taken refuge under a vacant building. 10:18 p.m., Restaurant employee reported an intoxicated man refused to leave the premeses in spite of repeated requests that he do so. An officer responded and found the man so inebriated he posed a danger to himself. The inebriate was subsequently taken into protective custody.
Feb 15 - 11:09 a.m., Homeowner reported an odd odor coming from the crawl space under her house, and asked a fire officer to ensure there was no dangerous gas buildup beneath the structure. A fire officer utilized various meters beneath and around the home’s foundation, but found nothing specifically indicative of combustible or noxious fumes. The homeowner was advised to provide better circulation under the house. 2:43 p.m., Two grown women who no longer like each other resorted to sending crude text messages via cell phone. No crime had occurred and the women were advised to not contact each other.
Feb 14 - 12:10 a.m., Officers responded to the Harbor View bar regarding a woman having apparently been pushed and injured inside the bar. According to the victim, she had been pushed by a coworker and injured her ribs when she fell and hit a footrest. A bystander said the woman had earlier slapped someone and utilized some quite vulgar terminology, and suspected she had provoked the incident. 12:49 a.m., Officer recognized Jeffrey R. Faudskar inside the Harbor View bar and arrested him on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear at his arraignment for driving under the influence. 1:33 a.m., An intoxicated patron of the Harbor View bar fell off his bar stool just as an officer was advising bar staff that the man should not be served any more alcohol. The inebriate was helped from the floor and advised not to return to any bars or liquor stores this night. 1:40 a.m., Jeffrey R. Faudskar, 26, of Oregon, was charged with violating conditions of release after officers determined that he had been consuming alcohol in spite of a court order that he not do so. 2:23 a.m., Carlos Guzman-Pineda, who simply wanted to be friends with another man, put his arms around the other’s shoulders. When his attentions were rebuffed, Guzman-Pineda was so upset that he punched the man in the head. Guzman-Pineda, 44, of Washington, was arrested on one count of fourth-degree assault.
Feb 13 - 1:12 a.m., Officers advised a man who had difficulty standing that he was not allowed to enter any bars or liquor stores this night. Officers helped pour the man into a taxi in order that he might leave the area. 1:53 a.m., Officers advised another intoxicated man that he was not allowed to enter any bars or liquor stores this night. 1:34 p.m., Caller reported his iPod had been stolen from the men’s locker room at the PCR. The victim provided descriptions of two possible suspects. Under investigation. 10:08 p.m., Bar employee reported what appeared to be a drug transaction in the bar. An officer responded and contacted one of the suspects, but the other, unidentified, had already left the area. No drugs were found.
Feb 12 - 12:12 a.m., A man phoned police to report that another man had called him bad names. The responding officer, who determined that one man did indeed call the other by less than complimentary terms, advised both parties that such situations did not require police intervention and were more appropriately handled by internal security. 8:10 a.m., Caller reported his roommate might be in need of medical assistance. An officer contacted the roommate, who appeared to be suffering from alcohol withdrawal but was not in need of immediate medical care. The officer advised him to contact both the clinic and his probation officer, as his drinking was a violation. 10:41 a.m., Officers were dispatched to a fishing vessel on which a belligerent male was apparently attempting to fight with people. Investigation indicated that Gary Hollipeter, 41, of Oregon, punched and bit his roommate because he believed something the roommate said had resulted in his termination. Hollipeter was arrested on one count of fourth-degree assault. 12:29 p.m., An argumentative male stopped a police officer and asked him to “witness” something, then walked up to a second man and wagged his finger in his face and made threatening remarks. The officer stopped the confrontation and advised the male that his behavior was not going to solve any problems and could in fact result in his going to jail. 1:20 p.m., An unidentified man stole a vehicle which had been left unlocked with the keys in the ignition, then almost immediately crashed into a building adjacent to the parking lot. The unidentified thief fled on foot. Under investigation. 2:21 p.m., Homeowner reported a flower box and decorations had been ripped from her shed during the night. Under investigation. 5:16 p.m., Caller reported a former taxi driver was still operating her taxi without benefit of proper and legal permits. An officer located the vehicle and driver, who had no passengers at the time and denied the allegations. 6:38 p.m., Nhel Mark Acoba, 18, of Unalaska, was arrested on one count each of first-degree sexual abuse of a minor and second-degree sexual abuse of a minor. Acoba’s arrest followed months of investigation initiated by a complaint from a former resident and parent of two young boys, alleging that Acoba had molested her youngest son. 11:19 p.m., Sister asked police to deal with her drunken sibling. Officers found that the allegedly intoxicated sister was not, and that the two were in a spat about other matters entirely. A trespass advisement was issued to one of the parties.
Feb 11 - 9:45 a.m., Library employee reported a man sitting in the children’s area of the library with his pants around his knees. The employee was unsure whether the man’s manner of dress was simply a fashion statement or indicative of more nefarious motives. Under investigation. 2:21 p.m., Fuel dock personnel reported an intoxicated man refused to leave the fuel dock in spite of repeated requests that he do so. Officers responded and found the man incapacitated by drink. He was subsequently taken into protective custody.
