Alaska Native Cultural Charter School needs more students

The Alaska Native Cultural Charter School in Anchorage announced Thursday evening it’s in need of two more enrolled students by Monday to remain open.

School officials said the school must have an overall average of 150 students each day of the Anchorage School District counting period, which begins Monday. If the school doesn’t meet the enrollment number, school officials said the state will cut funding in half and the school could close.

The school also announced its getting close to adding bus service in the Anchorage area.

The Alaska Native Cultural Charter School is part of the Anchorage School District – there is no tuition involved. It teaches the same standards as any other district school, but emphasizes Alaska Native cultures and traditions. It’s open to all students.

School activities include berry picking, tanning hides, Native language and songs.
