State PFD is largest in history

Most Alaskans are about to get $3,269 richer after Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell announced the amount of the 2008 Permanent Fund dividend in Anchorage on Friday morning.

The amount of the dividend is $2,069, the largest in the 27-year history of the PFD program. The $3,269 amount also includes a one-time $1,200 “resource rebate” approved by Gov. Sarah Palin and the Legislature to offset high energy costs around the state.

Parnell said 610,768 Alaskans are eligible for the PFD. He said 493,000 of them will receive the money through direct deposit Friday, Sept. 12.
