Area wrestlers headed to state

A total of 37 wrestlers from throughout Southwest Alaska will be competing in the 2017 boys' and girls' state wrestling tournaments this week in Anchorage. The meets will begin on Friday, Dec. 15, at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.

Dillingham will have the largest contingent of athletes in Anchorage, sending 14 wrestlers, including 13 boys and one girl — Cate Gomez. The Unalaska Raiders will have eight boys entered into the boys' tournament, while New Stuyahok, Bristol Bay and Sand Point will all be sending three. King Cove and Newhalen will be represented by two athletes apiece, while Koliganek and Manakotak will both send one.

The state tournaments will be held on Dec. 15 to 16 at the Alaska Airlines Center.
