Adam Nguyen may not have left the 2017 ASAA State Swimming and Diving Championships with a medal, but he certainly made sure everyone knew he was there. The Unalaska standout finished in the top 15 in both of his events.

Nguyen opened the meet, which featured more than 20 teams from across the state, with a solid showing in the 50-yard freestyle race. He raced his way to a time of 23.07 seconds and finished 11th overall. Only the top eight in each preliminary race advanced to the finals.

Nguyen also finished 14th in the 100-yard backstroke race in 57.99 seconds.

Thunder Mountain captured the boys' state championship honors by rolling up 94 points. Dimond and Kodiak finished second and third, respectively.

Dimond won the girls' state title.
