Veterans summit set for Aug. 26 in Fairbanks
August 18th 4:38 pm | Alaska Newspapers Staff
Veterans from across Alaska are invited to participate in the third annual statewide Veterans Summit at the Carlson Center in Fairbanks Aug. 26.
At 77,000 veterans, Alaska is home to more veterans per capita than any other state.
The annual gathering brings together a large number of key veterans who assist state legislators in establishing changes that affect veterans in Alaska.
The event is hosted by the Department of Military & Veterans Affairs, the Joint Alaska State Legislative Veterans' Caucus and the Alaska Veterans Advisory Council.
After presentations by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and the State of Alaska, the summit will break out into a workshop-type forum with leaders from Alaska's communities. The workshops will focus on compensation, pensions, the medical system and educational/vocational rehabilitation.
This is an opportune venue for veterans to learn more about their earned benefits and provides an avenue for veterans to set the foundation for advancing the state's veterans issues. Veterans, military service personnel and family members are encouraged to attend and participate.
For more information, please contact Verdie Bowen, State of Alaska director of Veterans Affairs, at (907)428-6016 or Jeff Slaikeu at (907) 428-6024.
