Happy trails lead to new horizons

The end of Alaska Newspapers Inc. (ANI) and Camai Printing brings new life to newspapers and staff alike. As I think about all the great things that we've accomplished here, I am so proud that I was part of such an amazing team.
Each and everyone one of us here at ANI played such big parts in creating all of the publications. Everyone from our accurate accountants to the wordy editors to our brilliant graphic designers to the flashy photographers to our infinite sales and marketing professionals, all the way to our rapid response teams in circulation, mailing and printing, and of course our beloved administration staff. Together, we all made it work and we made it work smoothly. There were many stories that we brought to you, as our reader.
A few stories come to mind, first off is Sen. Lisa Murkowski's wildly successful write-in campaign and all those "write-in" removable stickers placed on the front page of all of our newspapers. What a significant Alaskan story. The other big headline is when we all heard of the shocking news about the passing of former Sen. Ted Stevens. I have to say it was such a poignant moment when ANI pulled together the commemorative piece and shared it at the services. It was quite touching.
Well another big headline is when "Hollywood came to town". Yes, I'm talking about none other than "Everybody Loves Whales". This production was the biggest news that us Alaskans heard of since sliced bread. I have to admit, it was so neat knowing that they were in town and looking for actual Natives to play in the movie. By no means, could I pass that opportunity up - thanks to my boss, Francis Fadaoff. Good going Mr. Boss man! That really worked out.
This brings me to my own personal growth with Alaska Newspapers Inc. While working at ANI, I was absolutely flattered when I was asked to be an extra in the big Hollywood film - "Everybody Loves Whales" and even wrote an article about it, "Hollywood moments more than 'extra'". The other big moment in my life was when the landlord had preconceived notions about Natives living on his property and shared my views on discrimination in Alaska, "Housing discrimination isn't old history in Alaska" and followed it up with "To fight discrimination, keep conversations going".
These were some very life changing moments in my life, all the while I was happily working at Alaska Newspapers Inc. It was said that ANI really reaches out to everyone far and wide, just like our state. But as you can see, ANI doesn't only reach out to our readers far and wide; our organization has actually reached out to our very own staff and has encouraged only positive growth among all of us. For that I am more than grateful. Thank you Alaska Newspapers Inc. and Camai Printing.
As all the newspapers and staff continue to take our own directions, I know that we will all continue to be creative in our own right. We're all very talented individuals and we will be successful on any path that we choose to skip along...
From me to all of you - best wishes and happy trails!
The end.
