The Unalaska Raiders team receives the Kotzebue Classic championship trophy at the awards ceremony Feb. 20 in Kotzebue.

The Unalaska Raiders boys basketball squad beat Kotzebue, Dillingham and Mt. Edgecumb to claim the championship of the Kotzebue Classic Tournament held Feb. 19-20 in Kotzebue.

Unalaska opened the tournament Feb. 19 with a 58-48 win over Dillingham. Unalaska came out strong and opened up an 8-point lead at half time and pushed the lead to 19 by the end of the third quarter. Dillingham applied strong full court pressure the entire game, but Unalaska was able to break the press, which led to a series of easy transition baskets. Dillingham rallied in the fourth quarter, but Unalaska was able to hold on for a 10-point victory. Unalaska was led in scoring by Cameron Lynch with 16, Andrew Seman with 13, and Reggie Hammond with 11.

Unalaska played Kotzebue on the second night of the tournament and was able to hold a comfortable 10-point lead for most of the game. Kotzebue rallied at the end behind strong defense and aggressive rebounding to close the lead to 4 with a minute left. Unalaska held on for a 47-43 victory. Unalaska was led in scoring by Micheal Fernandez with 15, Cameron Lynch with 12 and Adrian Del Rosario with 11.

Unalaska earned a 52-46 victory over Mt. Edgecumb to claim the championship. Unalaska opened up a 13-8 lead in the first quarter only to see Mt. Edgecumb rally back to take the lead at the end of the third quarter behind frantic, full court pressure. Unalaska was eventually able to settle down and scored a series of baskets in the half court against the aggressive trapping defense. Unalaska was led in scoring by Cameron Lynch with 13, Marc Sorenson with 12 and Michael Fernandez with 9.

Michael Fernandez and Cameron Lynch were named to the all-tournament team. Unalaska now moves to 6-5 on the year, heading into the Western Alaska Conference Basketball Tournament to be held in Unalaska beginning March 3.
