Before earning the green, the Time Bandit is going green.

The Florida-based company SeaLand Environmental Inc. announced recently a joint venture to incorporate green solutions to the F/V Tim Bandit, a crab fishing boat featured on the Discovery channel's TV show "Deadliest Catch."

SeaLand Environmental has the most comprehensive portfolio of environmentally friendly products and technologies available today from a single company, said SeaLand CEO Jeff Steele.

"We feel that offering products based on our commercial/industrial applications to the general public can help clean the water ways," Steele said in a press release, "and that is our focus."

Built in 1991, the Time Bandit stretches 113 feet long and 28 feet wide. It weighs 298 tons and is capable of carrying 175,000 pounds of crab.

The boat will be refitted with new products making it a "green vessel."

"The process of greening the Time Bandit will help reduce emission, save fuel and lower the footprint on the water," Steele said. "The green re-fit will have cutting edge technology from stern to stern."

Going green is the way of the future, captain Jonathon Hillstrand said, and he's glad the Time Bandit is leading the charge.

"This change is very exciting and we look forward to setting the standard on the Bering Sea for crabbing vessels," he said.

SeaLand Environmental was established in 2001 and incorporated in 2008. Their team is led by some of the top individuals in the industry with many years combined experience in corporate management and strategic planning.

The company's operations of four business units consist of:

business solutions-serving corporations seeking ways to go green; marine-serving pleasure and commercial marine industries; transportation-serving commercial transportation industry; and performance motorsports-serving professional motorsports.

The new Time Bandit line of boat and yacht products are now available for retail purchase. In addition, eco-friendly lubricants such as hydraulic oil, gear oil, greases, aerosols and a growing offering of specialty and custom formula solutions will be added under the label this spring.

"We feel that offering high quality and environmentally safe products fits with what we are doing on our boat," captain Andy Hillstrand said.
